Throughout its coffee production history, Tanzania has been known for its peaberry coffee, a common genetic mutation that causes a coffee cherry to develop a single smaller, round seed rather than the two half-moon-shaped seeds that are usually found. While peaberries happen naturally and comprise 5–12% of the world’s coffee, they have historically been sorted out of Tanzanian coffees due to marketplace demand for lots of uniform size.
